Del Mar

About This Project

Del Mar is located just north of La Jolla and Torrey Pines State Reserve. It is a small community, home to a population of approximately 4500 and spans 2.1 square miles of prime coastal real estate. Much like San Diego’s other coastal communities, Del Mar’s climate stays at average temperatures between 64 and 78 degrees year round.  Del Mar encompasses a one-of-a-kind historic downtown village that dates all the way back to the 1880s. The village currently hosts over 60 shops offering everything from high-end apparel to unique specialty shops. Looking to dine within the village? There is plenty to choose from with the 25 restaurants and various cafes; many offering views overlooking the ocean.   Also located along the 2 miles of coastline are a variety of famous beaches, including a sliver of beach for dogs and Torrey Pines State Beach. Del Mar’s primary beach is the only beach in the county with wheel chair access and wheelchairs designed specifically for the sand. During the summer, the world famous thoroughbred racetrack and grounds are converted into the Del Mar Fair where adults and children can enjoy some “fair food” or catch a ride on the Ferris wheel.

Since the legendary days of Hollywood’s golden years, Del Mar has been the destination of choice for many a movie star as well as those with a taste for fast horses, beautiful beaches and award-winning cuisine. Along with the Del Mar Fairgrounds, home to the Del Mar Races and San Diego County Fair, the historic and charming Del Mar Village offers a variety of unique shops, renowned restaurants, and luxury and beach-style hotels. Saturday’s farmers’ market is also a great place to pick up the freshest and finest produce, flowers and seafood the region has to offer.

The community boasts three different neighborhoods and several community parks that are perfect for watching the sunset over the Pacific or catching a free concert during the summer months. The Village offers a variety of styles with oceanfront views from quaint beach cottages to posh luxury estates. Rural Del Mar is located minutes from the beach, but gives the feel of being in the country with some homes on acre lots. Del Mar Heights is located just west of Interstate 5 and hosts a range of modest to expansive custom homes. Whatever your lifestyle is, Del Mar has a little bit of something for everyone.

There is a Del Mar beach to fit any preference: The River Mouth (or Dog Beach) which is broad, wide and dog-friendly; north Del Mar City Beach, which some consider to be San Diego’s finest beach; and south Del Mar City Beach, which is long, cliff-lined and isolated, perfect for long walks or jogs.
